Bed bugs are a source of nuisance that most homes would wish to get rid of. These annoying bugs survive on warm blood, and if human hosts are not available then they attack household pets like dogs. In addition, eradicating them is not easy at all and it needs a serious bug control effort to remove them.

Travellers often bring bed bugs with them to a new home destination where they multiply rapidly and start troubling the residents of the home. They invade beds, furniture, carpets and all such articles where they can find holes and cracks.

At daytime, bed bugs remain in dark places. They favor fabric, wood, and paper surfaces. They normally occur in pretty close proximity to the host, although they can go far distances. They can also be seen in tuffs, creases, and foldings of mattresses.

A common myth about bed bugs is that they multiply because of lack of cleanliness, but that’s quite incorrect. It must be remembered that blood and not litter is what invites these bugs and hence a clean house is not enough to get rid of them. But cleaner surroundings facilitate better spotting of these pests and thereby getting rid of them becomes easier.

That bed bugs are too small to be seen without any magnifying device is another misconception. In fact, these pests can be spotted without any difficulty, yet we rarely see them because they have flat bodies that help them hide easily in narrow nooks of furniture or folds of cloth.

They will normally bite once a week or so, and they can really survive for a long time without feeding – commonly six months, but sometimes over a year.

One of the easiest ways to exterminate bed bugs is to engage an experienced pest controller who can disinfect the home of these pests. Of course some home cures do fight bed bugs, like washing bed sheets, carpets and other infested items of clothing in warm water and afterwards exposing them to strong sunshine. It is necessary to close all crevices in the walls and remove furniture that has cracks in it, so that these bugs don’t get any place to breed.
