The first security camera was a c-mount surveillance cameras, and they were first introduced in the 1970’s. Perhaps it was the fact that fashion was not at its high that these boxy, obtrusive security cameras look the way that they do, but it had more to do with the technological limitations of the time. As camera technology was in its infancy, chips sets and circuit boards were much bigger than today, which rather restricted cameras to the c-mount security camera mold. In addition to better resolution, bigger chip sets also enable the camera to pick up more light in poor lighting conditions, effectively making the surveillance camera be able to pick up color video in conditions with less light.

CS-mount cameras make excellent indoor cameras, but to be used outside they must be mounted in protective housings and with more secure brackets, as they are not well-shielded from the elements. Because of their superior video quality, large businesses and government installations use the majority of c-mount security cameras.

The effectiveness of a c-mount camera to see in low level lighting conditions is shown by the cameras lux rating. A lux is used to express how much ambient light there is in a space. The lower the lux rating on the camera the less light there needs to be for the CCD to properly capture a usable image, Unfortunately this technology is new and always improving, so expect higher prices if you need a camera with low light capabilities.

One should remember that c-mount surveillance cameras do not come equipped with a lens, so one will need to be purchased separately. This makes them initially more more expensive and less costly over time, as their lenses can be swapped out to fit another use rather than requiring a completely new surveillance camera.

C-mount surveillance cameras, like most models of security cameras, do face a weakness: cs-mount security cameras require considerable effort to be used outdoors. CS-mount security cameras are more sensitive than, for example, bullet surveillance cameras, and considerable damage can be done to them by wate, wind, heat, or cold. If you require a cs-mount security camera outdoors, you will need to purchase a housing and a mounting bracket. Some housings simply protect from water and projectiles, whereas other are equipped with heaters and blowers to keep the temperature the same. Mounting brackets, just as they sound, enable cs-mount cameras to be mounted on outdoor walls.

C-mount surveillance cameras also help to prevent illegal activities, as their obtrusive size makes them extremely obvious. As such, many banks, businesses, and government offices use them. They make the very obvious statement “You are being recorded.”

In summary, c-mount cameras are the very highest resolution security camera but have some difficulties when being used outdoors, as they were not built for adverse weather conditions. C-mount surveillance cameras can record better than most other cameras in difficult light, can be modified by swapping out their lenses, and offer the very highest resolution of any security camera.
