A number of concerned groups now and ordinary citizens are advocating for the use alternative energy. Reasons for the advocacy vary from concerns in the environment to some economic reasons. Solar electricity, a kind of alternative energy, would probably be the lesser-known form of alternative energy. So here’s a bit about it.

A very popular component we use for residential solar power are the solar panels. These are used to transform and convert the sunlight into what we call solar electricity. Photovoltaic technology is behind the magic of the solar panel. With the help of photovoltaic cells, it can convert the solar energy it gets from the sun into solar electricity which can then power our lights, televisions and other electrical appliances.

The solar panel consists of solar cells that allow the absorption of the sun’s rays which is then converted into solar electricity. The photovoltaic passes through two or even more semi conductors that are made from silicon. Every-time it is touched by the light, it would create electrical charges which is then transformed into direct current.

Nowadays, no matter what country you are in, news about solar electricity are everywhere. There are more and more people that install systems in their homes daily. Why is that so?

First because photovoltaic system requires minimal maintenance, and on top of that, produces solar power without the threat of producing greenhouse or any gases for that matter. At this point in time, we know how important it is to minimize, if not totally prevent the production of greenhouse gases given the climate changes that according to experts slowly kill our planet. Also, operation of this system is so silent as to compare with other modes of producing energy.

With all these talk about it, you must want to know, “what’s the best way to start with solar electricity?”

The main thing you’d want to purchase is the solar panel. Depending on how much energy you use, the cost for the panels would be relative to it. Without this, the rays from the morning sun wouldn’t be absorbed.

But if you’re working on a tight budget, never worry since you can build your own solar panels to produce solar electricity by just few clicks on the internet.

With the help of alternative energy like solar electricity, you can save money and of course, the environment. This will certainly make the lives of our children a better one. So start today and give back to the world. You will never regret it.

Reduce Monthly Electricity Costs on Lighting

If you want to save money on your power bills this DIY cut monthly electricity costs article is going to show you some great and practical ways. You could purchase some new green products or maybe even use the extra money to buy yourself a little vacation.

Compact Fluorescent Lamp aka CFL or circular fluorescent bulb. CFL and incandescent bulbs each generate light in different ways.

Since Thomas Edison’s invention of incandescent light bulbs they have pretty much worked the same way. When electricity is connected to both of the sides of a carbon filament, it gets hot and light is produced. Normal fluoro tubes and CFLs have a closed glass tube that has a fluoro coating which glows as current is applied to the mercury vapour and argon inside.

Although you may have heard how these bulbs work, no matter how cheap they are, if you are turning them on more than about twice a year you are wasting your money. If you want to save money look for the green products. Compared with an incandescent bulb the newer Energy Star CFL bulbs can save around 75% in costs. A CFL light bulb will save you about $30 over its lifetime and pay for itself within 6 months!

The CFL bulb has come a long way these days giving us a much wider choice of light spectrum that is omitted. The mood of the rooms in your house, office or any other rooms can be greatly changed. The CFL color choices vary from a daylight blue to a warm yellow. Choosing a warmer colored light would be the right choice if you prefer incandescent bulbs. Be aware that the daylight or bluer light comes across as very harsh white light and can have negative effects on people that are sensitive to light.

If you see a K on the bulb packaging, that K or Kelvin rating, will give you the “temperature” of the bulb. A Kelvin rating of 2700K-3000K means it’s a warm/yellow bulb. 3500K-4100K Kelvin rating will get you a cool white bulb. And a 5000K-6500K Kelvin rating would give you that Daylight blue look.

To replace 40 watt incandescent bulbs, use 9-13 watt CFL bulbs to get the same results. Use a 13-15 watt CFL to replace a 60 watt incandescent. Use an 18-25 watt CFL to replace a 75 watt incandescent bulb. And to replace 100 watt incandescents use 23-30 watt CFLs.

Please remember to recycle all compact fluorescent bulbs. Some states forbid mixing used bulbs that contain mercury with solid waste trash. The reason is there is around 5 milligrams of mercury in one CFL bulb.

If you want places to recycle your used CFL bulbs and other green products you can take them to places such as IKEA, (OSH) Orchard, ACE Hardware and Home Depot.

If you are looking for decorative lights, Energy Star qualified light emitting diode bulbs (LED) are a great alternative. These bulbs create the exact same amount of light as their equivalent incandescent bulb and use up to 90% less energy! I have heard that the power needed for only one 7 watt incandescent bulb could be used to power up to 140 LEDs!

So try the LED decorative lights for the outside and the give CFLs a go for the inside. The bulbs will help the environment and keep lots of money in your pocket at the same time.

DIY Cut Electricity Consumption By At Least Half

One of the most unsettling times of the month is when we have to come up with the cash to pay for our much needed electricity. Its high time that we take some measures in reducing our power bills. Well share some tips and tricks on how to do just that.

Firstly, a family discussion about electricity saving is a must if there are others sharing the house with you. You could reward them with treats or outings (or ask them what rewards they would like) if their participation leads to savings. Make suggestions like turning the lights out when they leave the room, or shutting the curtains on a cold day to help keep the heat in. Also, you could remind them that in shutting off all appliances not being used, if even for five minutes between use, their seemingly small efforts can add up to a chunk of saving!

If you are smart about power consumption youll end up with more money in your pocket each month. To get you further along the track with savings, change any existing incandescent bulbs to fluorescent lighting or even CFL bulbs. These light bulbs consume way less energy as much less power is consumed.

Buying a gadget from the hardware store that monitors the whole house power usage can give you control over electricity expenditure.

These days just because of the sheer amount of electrical appliances we have in the home we assume our high power bills are justifiable. But the truth is how many gadgets we have in our homes does not completely affect our bills, but rather its the way in which we use them.

Take a step in the right direction and only use the appliances we tend to use on a daily basis as seldom as possible. The washing machine should only be used when there is a bucket full of clothes ready to be washed. Keep the air con at minimum high or low temperatures. Try to remember to turn off your computer monitor when its not in use. It consumes so much power yet takes a second to switch it back on.

Lastly but not least, we suggest that in order to significantly cut your electricity consumption bill, read the energy saving guide at our site. It has got some of the best ideas on how to create your energy in the home and genuinely get energy for free for your appliances.

If we use renewable sources such as the wind, sun and tides we can save tens of thousands of dollars and sleep better at night knowing we are contributing to a more sustainable planet. Imagine never getting another electricity bill ever again!
